PCCW Global and CAT Telecom to explore business opportunities

PCCW Global, a subsidiary of Hong Kong's premier telecommunications provider, PCCW Limited, and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (CAT), a leading Thai telecommunications service provider, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop close and strategic cooperation.

This agreement serves to support CAT's recent establishment of a Point of Presence in Hong Kong. The two companies will explore opportunities for cooperation in telecommunications services to support demand from customers with needs to connect Thailand, Hong Kong and the rest of the world.

From May, Mobage, DeNA’s highly popular social networking platform centered on gaming, will be directly linked to DOCOMO’s i-mode™ mobile Web portal for feature phones (highly functional non-smartphones) and “docomo market” portal for smartphones. Linkage will enable DOCOMO customers—including more than 6 million smartphone users projected for the current fiscal year—to navigate easily to Mobage’s social-gaming services.

A dedicated Mobage application will be preinstalled in selected DOCOMO smartphones to be released beginning in the foreseeable future. DOCOMO users will enjoy special benefits when using Mobage, such as early access to sought-after new content and exclusive privileges for selected content, as well as easy direct billing via DOCOMO’s sp-mode™ service for smartphones.

Optus, one of Australia’s leading mobile operators is gearing up to further strengthen its presence in the mobile broadband market and prepare itself for ever increasing data traffic demand. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as its sole packet core vendor in a multimillion dollar agreement to address growing bandwidth requirements and offer new data services along with improving time to market.

“With the increasing use of data and smartphone applications, our Evolved Packet Core provides a springboard to operators such as Optus to launch new services,” added Kalevi Kostiainen, head of Australia and New Zealand at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Moreover, our platform is LTE ready and adds enormous capacity to data transport channels, allowing Optus Open Network to be flexible in responding to the market demands related to high capacity, using a robust platform.”

“Over the last couple of years, we have seen an explosion in mobile broadband and a rise in smartphones as customers consume information on the go,” said Günther Ottendorfer, managing director, Optus Networks. “This new agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks on using its Mobile Packet Core solution will give Optus the flexibility to provide more bandwidth to our customers as required, especially as online applications and mobile working has become the norm.”

The need for high speed internet access in Indonesian society has increased. To fulfil the need, PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) will provide a high speed service through Speedy fixed broadband or Telkomsel Flash wireless broadband.

“In the future Telkom will introduce a new facility combining stability of fixed internet broadband with comfortable mobile internet,” explained Operation Vice President Public and Marketing Communication Telkom, Agina Siti Fatimah in Jakarta.

As explained by Agina, TelkomGroup is continuously trying to provide services that are suitable to subscriber needs, either by the tariff , package or lifestyle needs.

Robi launches mobile remittance service

For the first time in Bangladesh, mobile operator Robi Axiata Limited and Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) have begun a mobile remittance to facilitate Bangladeshi expatriates living abroad to transfer money through mobile phone.

Speaking on the occasion Managing Director & CEO of Robi, Michael Kuehner said, "This will strengthen Robi's commitment to its customers as m-remittance will make remittance collection more convenient."

In order to collect remittance beneficiary needs to show and submit a photocopy of original identity document (National ID/passport/driving license) & transaction ID to the Robi Service Partner (RSP) outlet. Upon diligent verification RSP will payout the remitted amount to the beneficiary.

Initially the service will be launched at RSP’s of Dhaka, Comilla and Chittagong region. Gradually the service will spread out all over Bangladesh.

Customers of any mobile operator can receive remittance service from RSP and remittance recipients can get this service free of cost.
